Student absences
Please report student absences, such as illness and leave, in Mentor as soon as possible. If a student is absent for more than one day, the school must be notified daily.
Exemption from school attendance
For leave longer than two days, an application must be submitted by emailing breidholtsskoli@reykjavik.is. Please provide the student's full name, dates of the leave, and reason on the designated form. School leave requests should be kept to a minimum. Guardians are responsible for any disruption to a student's education due to absence or exemption from school attendance.
Disruption to school operations due to bad weather
Parents and guardians are advised to closely monitor weather reports, forecasts, and other recommendations from authorities that could affect children's school and recreational activities, and to take appropriate action. Weather and conditions can vary by neighborhood and change quickly and unexpectedly.
Cafeteria
The cafeteria is in the central area on the school's first floor. Meals are free, but parents must still register students for them through Vala.
If a child has medically confirmed allergies or intolerances, please inform the cafeteria supervisor.
Students can also get free oatmeal in the morning between 8 a.m. and 8:20 a.m.
Snacks
Students in lower and middle grades eat their snacks around the first recess period. They should bring healthy snacks from home and a water bottle.
Students in grades 8-10 eat snacks during first recess in the dining hall and get oatmeal provided by the school.
Recess
Students in grades 1-7 have outdoor recess twice daily. School aides, learning support assistants, and teachers supervise students in hallways and on school grounds. Students should dress for the weather and bring extra clothes when necessary. We try to go outside daily in all weather conditions. Students in grades 8-10 can choose whether to go outside during their recess.
Mentor
Mentor manages class schedules, attendance, homework, parent interview bookings and educational assessments. Parents/guardians report child illnesses and short-term leaves through Námfús. For more information, please contact the school secretary.
