Students are responsible for their learning, behavior, and interactions, considering their age and maturity. They must follow instructions from teachers and staff in all school matters, adhere to school rules, and respect general conduct guidelines with staff and schoolmates.
Teachers introduce school rules to students and parents/guardians each fall and remind them as needed. School rules are available on the school website.

Primary school meals
School meals are free for the 2024-2025 school year. However, the school still needs to track information about allergies and intolerances and limit food waste. Students must register for the school lunch program as before.
Students registered last year will be automatically enrolled. Others need to register. Change the registration at matur.vala.is.
Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City schools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in school activities. All schools in Reykjavík City have an active parent association.
Breiðholtsskóli Student Council
Breiðholtsskóli has a student council or youth council. The student council addresses social, interest, and welfare issues for students. All Breiðholtsskóli students are members. Two representatives are chosen from each grade, 1st through 10th, regardless of gender. Students don't elect a chair or board but share responsibilities. Elections occur each August/September.
Students in grades 5-7 and 8-10 each select a representative for the school council.
Absence notifications
Report student absences, such as illness, on Mentor as soon as possible. For illnesses lasting more than a day, notify daily. For leave requests, use the form on the school website in advance. For leaves longer than 2 days, parents must request in writing on a specific form and get principal approval. Parents are responsible for the student's education during this time.
Leaves longer than a week are considered temporary exemptions from school attendance. Apply using a special form on the school website. In such cases, the guardian meets with school administration and the homeroom teacher to discuss the application. The school reserves the right to deny the request if deemed necessary. Any disruption to the student's education is entirely the parents'/guardians' responsibility.
Evaluation of school activities
The goal of evaluating and monitoring the quality of work is to provide information about school activities, their results and development.
School districts
There are several school districts in Reykjavík and each child has priority in their district school. Nevertheless, all parents have the choice to apply to any school in the city for their children according to the rules on school districts, applications, and admission.
