Internal evaluation of school operations at Breiðholtsskóli
As required by Articles 5 and 6 of the Compulsory School Act, municipalities evaluate and monitor school quality while providing the Ministry with information about school operations, internal evaluations, external municipal assessments, educational policy progress and improvement plans. Municipalities are required to follow up on both internal and external evaluations to ensure they result in meaningful improvements to school operations. The Compulsory School Act mandates that each primary school systematically evaluate its performance and quality through active participation from staff, students and parents as appropriate. Primary schools must publicly disclose information about their internal evaluations, how these relate to the school curriculum, and their plans for improvement.
Self-assessment, improvements and planning
School self-assessment involves systematically gathering information about specific aspects of school operations. The quality of work is then assessed by measuring results against goals or benchmarks. Based on the evaluation, decisions are made to enhance outcomes, establish goals, and develop an implementation plan.
School administrators oversee all work related to internal evaluations, including the development of self-assessment reports and improvement plans. School staff, students and parents all take part in evaluating school operations. The self-assessment process includes a three-year internal evaluation plan and yearly improvement plans
